We planned to climb Yubra in the Langtang Valley in April 2023. A rarely climbed the 6000-metre peak. The scant information about this mountain was from 5 years ago and also turned out to be not quite right. Besides, we suffered a lot from the heavy snowfall in March.
After we had to abort the first attempt because, around 4900 metres, the terrain became too dangerous for the porters, Imagine Nepal sent two more Sherpas to make another attempt in alpine style. On the way to High Camp (5450m), it started snowing heavily. About a metre of snow fell that night. As we headed up the glacier the next morning towards the entry point of the climb, it soon became clear that this was not feasible. Because of the heavy snow, all crevasses were covered. And we had to cross this glacier for about 2.5 kilometres… I decided to turn around, as continuing was not wise.
In the end, we still managed to climb a mountain: the Yala Peak. An easy mountain, though this, too, looked more like a winter climb.
The support from Imagine Nepal was perfect. Besides an excellent guide (Pemba Tamang), the support and communication with Dawa Gyaljen Sherpa in Kathmandu was also very pleasant and always focused on making the expedition succeed within the challenging conditions!
We look back on a great time in Nepal and are very satisfied with Imagine Nepal!
