While it’s quiet in Nepal, we are incredibly excited to share great news from Pakistan. Our G2 expedition 2024 (Gasherbrum-II) team successfully reached the summit of G2 in Pakistan at 1:28 PM local time. G2 stands proudly as the 13th-highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 8,035 meters above sea level. The team’s journey was marked by perseverance as they spent three nights at Camp 2, waiting for better weather that never came. Despite high winds, they made a daring summit push last night and achieved their goal.
G2 Expedition 2024 Summiteers
- – Dr. Sashko Kedev: Dr. Sashko has now completed 11 of the 14 highest peaks in the world. His remaining challenges are Kanchenjunga, Shishapangma, and Gasherbrum-I.
- – Dr. Tracee Lee Metcalf: Dr. Tracee, from the United States, has also summited 11 of the 14 highest peaks. She now has Gasherbrum-I, Broad Peak, and Shishapangma on her list of future conquests.
- – Dawa Gyalje Sherpa (IFMGA): Leading our Gasherbrum-I and Gasherbrum-II expeditions, this is Dawa Gyalje Sherpa’s second summit of G2. He has now completed 13 of the highest peaks in the world, with Shishapangma remaining.
- – Kilu Pemba Sherpa and Angdu Sherpa**: Our exceptional Sherpas have summited their 10th and 8th of the 14 highest peaks, respectively, with their recent success on Gasherbrum-II.
Ongoing Expeditions and Weather Challenges
- In addition to our success on Gasherbrum-II, we have ongoing expeditions to Mount K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum-I in Pakistan. However, the unpredictable weather in Pakistan poses significant challenges.
- From the K2 base camp, MingmaG, founder of Imagine Nepal and leader of the K2 and Broad Peak expedition, reports that the weather above 7000m has been continuously challenging, with winds over 50km/hr. Despite these conditions, our team achieved the G2 summit with winds exceeding 50km/hr. Broad Peak, typically seeing its first summit by mid-July, has yet to be conquered this year. The first summit attempt is now anticipated for the 27th of July, though this may be delayed due to fluctuating weather predictions.
- The situation on K2 mirrors these challenges. No team has successfully established Camp 3 yet. Our team has cleared Camp 2 and is waiting for a more favourable weather window to make further progress.
