Dawa Gyalje Sherpa

Expedition Manager/IFMGA Guide

Dawa Gyalje Sherpa is from Rolwaling, an isolated village in north-central Nepal. He started his career in mountaineering at age 20 on Everest. Dawa’s a highly experienced and certified UIAGM/IFMGA Mountain guide leading international expeditions in Nepal, China/Tibet, and Pakistan.

Dawa Gyalje Sherpa has successfully climbed all of the world’s 14 highest 8,000-meter peaks, including Mount Everest 15 times and K2 twice. He is now eager to conquer the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. He has already ascended Mount Everest (Nepal, Asia), Mount Aconcagua (6,961 meters, Argentina, South America), Mount Elbrus (5,642 meters, Russia, Europe), Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 meters, Tanzania, Africa), and Carstensz Pyramid (4,884 meters, Indonesia, Oceania). The remaining peaks he plans to climb are Mount Denali (6,190 meters, USA, North America) and Vinson Massif (4,892 meters, Antarctica).

In addition to climbing well-known mountains, Dawa is passionate about exploring unclimbed peaks in Nepal. In recent years, he successfully ascended five unclimbed peaks, each over 6,000 meters. His achievements inspire many Nepalese to pursue climbing and exploration. Notably, he guided a 69-year-old double amputee Chinese climber to Everest in 2018 and assisted Rustam Nabiev, a Russian climber, to reach the summit of Manaslu in 2021. He also made headlines by summiting K2 and Broad Peak within just 11 days. Dawa looks forward to climbing the last two peaks on his list, Mount Denali and Mount Vinson, in coming years.
